Doing the laundry is one of those home tasks that can be draining and time-consuming. Here at Power Of 4, we have compiled a list of tips that will hopefully help you save money and time when doing your washing.
Wash your clothes and towels separately
Towels are made of terry cloth, and this stuff is fibrous and will rip the threads of your clothing and leave little terry-towel fluffs all over your clothes. Keep your towels and clothing separate when washing to extend the life of your clothes and saving you the trouble of de-fluffing.
Use Power Of 4 Sanitiser Softener to re-wash stinky clothes
Did you forget to take your clothes out of the washing machine? It happens sometimes. The unfortunate thing is when you leave your clothes sitting in the machine for too long they come out stinking worse than the men’s locker room at the gym. To get rid of the smell, pour half a capful of Power Of 4 Sanitiser Softener Laundry Liquid into the fabric softener compartment and re-wash to cleanse your clothes of the stench and will kill any mould spores that are causing the odour.
Use the best laundry detergent
Whenever you are doing your laundry, don’t forget that a good laundry detergent will give the best results. Not all detergents are suitable for all washing machines. We have first-hand experience in seeing the damage a cheap detergent can do, so we developed our own range! Smelly washing machine
If you notice that your washing machine is smelly, there are a few things you can do to clean and maintain it.
- If your washing machine is in need of a good clean, the first thing we recommend using is our Dishwashing Powder (4 scoops in a front loader on a 60-80 degree program) as it will remove grease, fats and body oils in the outer drum. It also has metal protection properties which will shine up the drum. Its good practise to do this three times a year.
- We have a Descaler cleaner that is designed to deodorise and clean the lime scale build up inside the machine. These deposits are usually in places that you can’t see and can be the result of a hard or mineral rich water source. This is commonly seen in South Australia but is present in other states too depending on the water source. It is good practise to run a Descaler clean every 3-4 months.
- Run a drum clean every month. Some machines have a dedicated “Drum Clean” program. If you don’t have a dedicated program, you can do this simply by choosing a cottons program and selecting the hottest temperature. In some front loaders this will be 90 degrees Celsius. This will flush out the machine and any undisssolved detergent that may still be present within the outer drum.
To maintain your washing machine whilst washing, we recommend using temperature programs as much as possible (at least on a weekly basis). We would suggest for example using our Power Of 4 Laundry Powder on a 60 degree program for towels, bedsheets and linen that can handle that temperature as this will not only kill bacteria but also keep the insides of your machine clean too! It’s a good idea to keep the door slightly open when you are not using your washing machine to help the moisture to dry off and prevent mold.
