If you have any specific allergy concerns that are not covered above, please contact us and we would be happy to help further.

YES we do.

We make a Low Allergy Laundry Powder with both fragrance and enzymes removed to cater for people with sensitive skin or allergies. The two primary things that cause skin reactions and allergies are enzymes and fragrance.

In addition, there are a few things we can recommend with our products for people that suffer from sensitive skin and allergies:

  • Introduce extra rinse cycles in your programs. Some washing machines will allow you to add up to 5 extra rinse cycles. Ensuring that the detergent is washed out of the clothing will prevent skin irritation.
  • Follow our dosage guidelines to ensure that you do not overdose on detergent.

This means that all our products contain active ingredients. There are no fillers added to our products which can over time block or cause components inside of an appliance to fail. This also means that only low doses are required and because we manufacture in bulk this makes the product economical to use per wash.

That’s a big yes from us – Australian made and owned! All products are created locally right here in South Australia.

Full transparency – Whilst the majority of our ingredients and packaging are sourced locally, there are some ingredients that are just not manufactured here and we are required to import. Our product quality is something we do not compromise on.

Traditional fabric softeners are a thick silicone-based liquid. These types of fabric softeners, whilst they smell nice, are not good either for your skin or your washing machine. Our Power Of 4 Sanitiser Softener Laundry Liquid is different. It is a watery based liquid that not only smells nice but serves two main purposes:

  1. It kills bacteria in all temperatures leaving linen and your washing machine hygienically clean. This will assist with mould and smell prevention inside your washing machine.
  2. The liquid has a softening agent that will leave fabrics soft.

Power Of 4 Sanitiser Softener Laundry Liquid is a high-quality sanitiser and softening solution in one for your laundry.

Technically, it could be classified as eco-friendly, but we believe honesty is the best policy.

The active ingredient contained within our Power Of 4 Sanitiser Softener Laundry Liquid isn’t biodegradable; however, because only half a capful is used per load and mixed with the final rinse water, it is heavily diluted that it is ineffective once expelled from the washing machine.

Our Power Of 4 Laundry Powder contains a dual action oxygen and solar activated bleach system which assists with stain removal as well as brightening whites and lights. The oxi-action goes to town on stubborn stains during the wash cycle whilst the solar activated bleach kicks in when clothes are exposed to the suns UV rays when hung out to dry or worn outside.

Our laundry liquids do not contain any bleaching agents and are pH neutral and which means that they are more delicate on colours.

The Power Of 4 Ultra Concentrate Laundry Liquid contains optical brighteners to help colours really pop whilst the Power Of 4 Delicates Woolwash Laundry Liquid contains no enzymes designed for those delicate items.

Yes our laundry liquids are compatible with auto dosing systems. If your washing machine supports setting the dosage amount we suggest you set the machine based on our dosage recommendations on the product label.

25mL is the recommended dosage for use with:
Power Of 4 Ultra Concentrate Laundry Liquid and
Power Of 4 Delicates Woolwash Laundry Liquid
30mL is the recommended dosage for use with Power Of 4 Sanitiser Softener

Our Power Of 4 Rinse Aid serves a couple of purposes. It is injected into the final rinse cycle and helps with water dispersion which means it helps aid the drying process leaving dishes and glasses spot and streak free. It also contains an antibacterial agent which kills bacteria and reduces odour.
Our Power Of 4 Dishwasher Powder also contains rinse aid however this is washed out after the main wash cycle. When it comes to rinsing you will benefit most when its injected into the final rinse cycle.

Power Of 4 products can be used in cold water and we do have customers that use it in cold water.

However to get the best results with Power Of 4, we recommend using temperature.

The two temperatures we recommend are:
40 degrees
This activates the enzymes and surfactants within our Laundry Powder and Ultra Concentrate Laundry Liquid. Enzymes play an important part in releasing soiled stains on clothing.

60 degrees
This activates the oxygen bleach in our Laundry Powder and Laundry Booster releasing stains as well as brightening those whites and brights!

For optimal results, we always recommend running full cycles and not quick or short cycles. Running shorter programs will reduce the amount of time that our detergents have with your clothing, and this will have an impact on how effective it will work with full loads of washing that are heavily soiled.

Our products are made to be used in both front loader and top loader washing machines. We have calculated the dosage requirements for both types of washing machines which can be read under the directions for use section on our product labels.

The main differences between both and how this affects the detergent are as follows:

Drum Size:
Generally top loaders have a much larger drum and therefore require a lot more water. To get the water vs detergent consistency right, a larger dose is required for top loaders.

Washing Action:
Both washing machines have different techniques when it comes to washing. Top loaders use an agitator to mechanically move clothes through the water. Front loaders use a tumbling action and mimic that of hand washing where clothes are slapped or dunked into water on a rotating cycle using gravity. This type of washing action is much gentler on clothes however this washing technique generates a large amount of friction and therefore requires detergents that are “low foaming” as foam restricts the washing process. Power Of 4 is low foaming and balanced so that in can be used in both types of machines.

What does non-colourfast mean?

Non-colourfast clothing is when the garment is unable to keep its colour without fading or running when washed, exposed to light or treated with laundering products like Power Of 4.

How do I know if my clothing is non-colourfast?

Here’s the tricky part. Some clothing labels won’t say non-colourfast, as it can be viewed as an inferior product. Phrases to look out for on your labels, that may mean your clothing is non-colourfast.

  • Wash separately
  • Wash with like colours
  • Dry in shade
  • Delicate
  • Do not soak or rub
  • Do not bleach
  • Gentle spin

Tie die garments and vintage wash/look garments are typically non-colourfast fabrics (even if they don’t say so) and require extra care.

How to test for non-colourfastness

There are two easy ways to test fabric for colourfastness.

Obtain a white clean damp cloth. Rub the wet cloth on an interior seam or hem of a colored garment. If any color comes off onto the white cloth, then the item is not colorfast and the dye will run when the garment is washed.

To test more thoroughly with Power Of 4 specifically:

  1. Mix one teaspoon of Laundry Powder in 1/2 cup of warm water and mix well.
  2. Turn an interior seam or hem. If you are concerned that the solution will bleed through to the right side of the fabric, place a dry, white cotton cloth under the test area.
  3. Dip a cotton swab in the solution and dab it onto the test area.
  4. Blot the area with a white paper towel. If the color comes off onto the white paper towel, the fabric will bleed dye. If the color of the test area has changed or become lighter, the dye will bleed.
  5. If you have a garment with different colors (strips, color-blocks, or graphic print), test each colored area separately.

Products to AVOID when treating non-colourfast items:

What’s the best way to wash these type of items?

With our Ultra-Concentrate Laundry Liquid or Delicate Woolwash Laundry Liquid and launder according to your clothing manufacturers instructions. This is generally always a cold wash and sometimes delicates wash.

All Power Of 4 laundry liquids are SAFE to use on non-colourfast items.

Always check your clothing manufacturers instructions for helpful hints.

Yes.

Our Power Of 4 laundry products are designed to work in High-Efficiency (HE) washing machines which use much less water then traditional washing machines.

HE laundry products therefore have the characteristics of low sudsing, are concentrated (so that only a smaller dosage is required) and are considered quick dispersing cleaners that are able hold soiling in a low level of water.

Power Of 4 has all those characteristics and more which make it a suitable solution to work in HE washing machines.

We do not use palm oil in any of our products.

Absolutely.

Our products do not contain any animal products nor have they been tested on animals.

Absolutely.

All our hard plastics such as our laundry liquid bottles, pails and descaler containers can go into your recycling bin.

Our new dishwasher and laundry bags can be recycled with soft plastics and can be taken to REDcycle participating outlets. Find your closest REDcycle outlet here.

Yes, you can use Power Of 4 with other brands.

For optimal results, we make recommendations on what we have tried and tested with the Power Of 4 range!

We believe that we have the entire range covered.

Should you have a scenario where you feel another product is required, please don’t hesitate to contact us for advice.

Our products are biodegradable, pH balanced and have little to no phosphates so that they can be poured into the garden or used with septic and enviro systems.

We do recommend however that the Descaler only be used as per the directions on a quarterly basis and not frequently as it is acidic based and designed to break down limescale. Overuse can affect the pH balance in these systems.

Care & Maintenance

One thing that is often missed when it comes to washing machines is getting into the habit of running maintenance cycles to keep the inside of your washing machine clean. This will prevent things like smell and mould as well flush out the body fats, grease and oils that will build up in the outer drum over time.

Before washing your clothes with any of our laundry products we suggest that you clean your washing machine.

Here are some tips and guidelines on keeping your washing machine healthy:

  1. If  your washing machine is in need of a good clean, the first thing we recommend using is our Dishwashing Powder (4 scoops in a front loader on a 60-80 degree program) as it will remove grease, fats and body oils in the outer drum. It also has metal protection properties which will shine up the drum. Its good practise to do this three times a year.
  2. We have a Descaler cleaner that is designed to deodorise and clean the lime scale build up inside the machine. These deposits are usually in places that you can’t see and can be the result of a hard or mineral rich water source. This is commonly seen in South Australia but is present in other states too depending on the water source. It is good practise to run a Descaler clean every 3-4 months.
  3. Run a drum clean every month. Some machines have a dedicated “Drum Clean” program. If you don’t have a dedicated program, you can do this simply by choosing a cottons program and selecting the hottest temperature. In some front loaders this will be 90 degrees Celsius. This will flush out the machine and any undisssolved detergent that may still be present within the outer drum.

To maintain your washing machine whilst washing, we recommend using temperature programs as much as possible (at least on a weekly basis). We would suggest for example using our Power Of 4 Laundry Powder on a 60 degree program for towels, bedsheets and linen that can handle that temperature as this will not only kill bacteria but also keep the insides of your machine clean too!

There are several reasons why powder may not wash completely out of the detergent dispenser. We can advise to check the following:

  1. Ensure that the detergent dispenser is set up correctly to handle powder. If the “liquid insert” is fully engaged, it will not allow powder to be flushed out into the drum. Some dispensers have a “liquid tray insert” that needs to be completely removed. Please read your manufacturers manual for further instructions on how to set your dispenser correctly for the type of detergent that you are trying to use.

  2. Check to ensure that your washing machine is level. A machine that is not levelled correctly will not allow powder to be washed out.
  3. Pull the detergent dispenser out and check that the water jets above are not blocked. They may need to be cleaned.
  4. Check your water pressure. Areas with low water pressure (or a gravity fed rainwater system) may not have enough pressure to wash powder completely out of the dispenser.
  5. Some washing machines just do not allow enough water to travel and wash through the dispenser. In these scenarios we suggest dissolving the powder with water first which can then be poured into the dispenser or put straight into the drum. Be sure to turn the machine on straight away!

When using powder, it is always good practise to put the detergent as far back within the dispenser as possible giving it the best chance to wash out.

The most common cause of dishwashing powder not washing out of the dispenser is a blockage or an obstruction. The powder (or tablet) is ‘washed’ out of the dispenser by the water that comes from the middle spray arm. If the spray arm is not able to turn, or is blocked, the result is undissolved detergent in the dispenser.

Blockages occur when food particles are passed through the filter in the bottom of the dishwasher and are recirculated back up through to the spray arm underneath the middle basket. We suggest that you take the spray arm off and give it a good clean ensuring the jets are free from debris. Soaking in hot water and detergent followed by a spray of compressed air usually does the trick.

Obstructions can occur when oversized plates, cutlery or utensils are placed in the bottom basket prohibiting the spray arm from turning. A typical sign of an obstruction of this kind is a knocking or ticking noise that can be heard when the machine is washing. This is caused by the spray arm making contact with the obstruction in the machine. A quick way to test this is to manually turn the spray arm by hand prior to closing the door to identify if there are any obstructions present.

Another type of obstruction can be in the form of a dishwasher air freshener. These are sometimes placed in the path of the middle basket spray arm and the detergent dispenser. This can be solved by removing the air freshener or placing it in a different position. Interestingly, these are used to mask an odour present in the machine. If you are using a quality detergent like Power of 4 Dishwashing Powder (in conjunction with Power of 4 Rinse Aid) and using the Power of 4 Descaler once every 3 – 6 months there should be no odour to mask in the first place.

This answer will vary depending on what your main water source is.

Firstly, descaling is the process of removing a build-up of limescale (calcium and magnesium); a hard, off-white, chalky deposit that sticks on metal surfaces when water containing these minerals is heated. This is very common in small appliances like coffee machines and irons, but we also see this within dishwashers and washing machines.

Some areas across Australia suffer more from limescale then others.

In hard water areas like South Australia for example, we recommend that you descale your appliance every 3-4 months. This will ensure that the build-up is kept to a minimum which will assist with the overall longevity of the appliance.

We manufacturer our Power Of 4 Descaler for your washing machine and dishwasher which descales, sanitises, and deodorises in one.

Our products are 100% safe to use on your pets bedding, including our Sanitiser Softener.

If you are after a general clean, we recommend following your manufacturers instructions or start with the General Tips on our Stain Removal Guide page. If you have a specific stain, please use our Stain Removal Guide and follow the 2 easy steps to get your solution.
